Sleep Study Process

What to Expect During Your Sleep Evaluation

Patients concerned about possible sleep-disordered breathing can expect a simple and efficient evaluation process designed for comfort and clarity. Here’s how it works:

Step 1 Health History and Symptom Intake

Each new patient begins by completing a health form that captures symptoms, medical history, and potential risk factors related to sleep and airway function.

Step 2 Initial at-Home Sleep Screening with Wearable Ring

  • Patients are provided with a wearable sleep ring to use overnight at home.
  • The device monitors sleep patterns, breathing, and heart rate.
  • It is non-invasive and designed to identify signs of possible sleep-disordered breathing.

Step 3 Pre-Test Consultation with a Sleep Physician

  • If the screening data suggests a potential sleep issue:
  • The patient is scheduled for a pre-test consultation with a board-certified sleep physician.
  • The physician reviews the screening results and, if indicated, orders a full home sleep test.

Step 4 Diagnostic Home Sleep Test

  • A clinical-grade home sleep test is administered to gather more comprehensive data.
  • This test is performed entirely at home, eliminating the need for overnight stays in a sleep lab.
  • It provides a more detailed analysis to support diagnosis.

Step 5 Post-Test Review with Sleep Physician

  • Following the diagnostic test, the patient attends a follow-up consultation with the sleep physician.
  • The physician explains the results, provides a Letter of Medical Necessity (if applicable), and issues a prescription for treatment as needed.

Step 6 Collaborative Review with TMJ/Sleep Specialists

  • The patient’s results are also reviewed by the in-house TMJ and airway team.
  • Recommendations are made for treatment options tailored to the patient’s specific condition.

Step 7 Customized Treatment Plan

  • Based on physician findings and in-office evaluations:
  • A personalized treatment plan is developed.
  • If indicated, the team coordinates with a Durable Medical Equipment (DME) provider to supply appropriate therapy, such as a CPAP or APAP device.
